At today's live event from Midtown Comics in New York City, Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso, and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort announced that the Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Marvel Universe will combine in Secret Wars. This will ultimately leave one combined world moving forward.
"The Ultimate Universe and the Marvel Universe will collide and the heroes of those two worlds will have eight hours to figure out what to do about it before both universes are destroyed...", said Breevort to some up the events of the upcoming Secret Wars #1 at today's live streaming event.
Just in case fans were thinking that this could be another short term gimmick to sell event issues, Alonso decided to put those fears to rest by dropping another "bomb" as they called it. "It's really simple...the Ultimate Universe and the Marvel Universe are going to smash together...Imagine them as two pizzas, slapping together. You're going to get brand new toppings, some toppings are going to drop off, you're going to yell about some that are missing, you're going to love some that are there... that's going to be the Marvel Universe moving forward."
When asked about the "Battleworld" map that we we're given a glimpse of previously, Breevort stated "Battleworld is the new little melting pot in which the new Marvel Universe will be created...all the little pieces that were in those incursion zones will be infused into a gigantic organism that is Battleword...in which various characters will live their lives, contend with this new situation and will set up the new building blocks of what the new Marvel Universe will be from that point going forward...Once you hit Secret Wars #1, there is no Marvel Universe, there is no Ultimate Universe, all there is is Battleworld and a whole lot of empty void."
These statements confirmed rumors that have been swirling for some time and will surely shake things up moving forward in the world of Marvel Comics. "It is difficult to imagine something that would be larger in scope than what we are doing with Secret Wars.", Breevort added as he tried to reitterate the impact that the event will have moving forward.
Needless to say, the 2015 version of Secret Wars should lead to some interesting times, controversy among fans and lots and lots of issues sold Mission accomplished again, Marvel.
